Frequently asked questions

Why is the Library changing this computer software?

We are currently using a product that will no longer be available, so at renewal time, we had to choose new software to replace it.

How will this affect me as a patron?

There will be times during the transition when some services will be unavailable, but once the move is complete, everything will look exactly the same.

How do I know what will be happening at any given point?

Updates and notifications will be posted on the library website and social media channels.

Will this affect holds and interlibrary loans?

Beginning May 21 at 11:59pm, the ability to place holds and interlibrary loan requests will be paused until the completion of the software update (approximately June 8). From approximately June 8 – 12, you will need to call to place an item on hold. Borrowing new ILLs will not resume until July 1st.

During this time, all existing holds will remain, as well as your place in the queue for your holds.

We must place this pause to make sure that all the information from the old system transfers completely to the new system.

Interlibrary loan will be down for longer so that we can add more features to the service.

Will this affect checking out materials?

Effective May 1, the length of time you may check out materials will double to help with the transition. You will still be able to check new items out at any time throughout the process. From June 1 to June 8, only 15 items may be checked out per library card.

When will the actual transition take place?

Our full behind-the-scenes library management system will be offline from June 1 to June 8. This is so we can finalize the move of all our data from the old system to the new system. Some services will be limited during that time, but you will still be able to check out materials, sign up for a library card, use a public computer, and access most electronic resources.

When will the catalog be back online?

We expect the catalog to be back online for you to use by June 12th. The behind-the-scenes system will be working before that, but our public-facing catalog can only start to transition once that behind-the-scenes part is up. From around June 8 – 12, you will need to contact library staff to place any holds or check account information.
