Durham County Library to Celebrate Fourth Annual Library Fest: The Nature Edition

Durham, NC — From Monday, April 8 to Saturday, April 13, Durham County Library will hold the fourth annual Library Fest. This year’s theme is The Nature Edition. With the generous support of the Durham Library Foundation, the Forest at Duke, and community partners, Library Fest will include world-class author talks, programs, and events. Headliners like Leah Thomas, Dr. John Francis, and Matías Murano will compliment dozens of nature-themed events being held throughout Durham.

On the opening night of Library Fest on Monday, April 8, Intersectional Environmentalist author Leah Thomas will deliver a talk on her work as an activist and how environmental issues interact with race, class, and gender. Dr. John Francis, known more commonly as The Planetwalker, will deliver his Thursday, April 11 talk at Duke University’s Nasher Museum of Art. Matías Murano’s Friday headliner will be a Spanish-language journey through twelve Latin American countries. Over 30 additional programs will be on offer throughout the week.

“Library Fest highlights the creativity and the excellence of our staff, while also making talks from globally renowned authors available for free to the public,” said Tammy Baggett, Durham County Library Director.

Returning due to popular demand is the Eats & Treats program in which local bars and restaurants release special literary-themed menu items. The first 25 customers to purchase one of these items will receive a limitededition Library Fest enamel pin.

“The Durham Library Foundation is delighted to sponsor Library Fest again this year,” said Arthur Rogers, president of the Durham Library Foundation. “Our intention is to empower our talented library staff to curate a week of captivating and enlightening programs for everyone in Durham County to enjoy. What a great new tradition!”
