STEAM kits for checkout

Want to test out some of our STEAM tech with your classroom, group, or family? Need a tool to complete that home or hobby project? You can check out a STEAM tech or tool kit from the Maker + STEAM department at Main Library!

Please email Maker + STEAM staff at Maker_STEAM@docnc.gov to inquire about kit availability and set up a time to check out the kit.

Usage guidelines

  • Our Maker + STEAM kits are available to be checked out directly from Maker + STEAM staff in the Innovation Lab during the Innovation Lab open hours. Please email Maker + STEAM staff at Maker_STEAM@docnc.gov to inquire about kit availability and set up a time to check out the kit.
  • Kits can be checked out for 21 days. No renewals currently allowed.
  • Usage guides are included in each kit.
  • A valid, full privileges Durham County Library card is required to check out a kit. The library card holder checking the kit out is responsible for any missing or damaged items.
  • Patrons may only check out one kit at a time.
  • Kits must be returned to Main Library (300 N. Roxboro St.) to a Maker + STEAM staff member during open lab hours or by other appointment.
  • Please check for kit contents before returning. Kit contents will be checked by Maker + STEAM staff at checkout and check-in.

Sphero Blueprint kit

Three copies of the kit are available for checkout. Each kit has the following, but we will have 3 kits in one bin for checkout:

  • 1 Blueprint Build Kit (320+ mechanical parts)
  • 1 storage bin for easy organization
  • 1 set of 5 Foundational Engineering Challenge Cards
  • 1 quick start guide
  • Units and lessons (digital only)
  • CAD curriculum support with SolidWorks, OnShape, and STEP files (digital)
