Durham County Library’s Stanford L. Warren Branch to Host Reopening Celebration on December 12

Durham County Library’s historic Stanford L. Warren Branch Library will host its grand reopening event beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 12. The library, located at 1201 Fayetteville Street, closed in August of 2021 to undergo structural repairs and interior renovations. With a reinforced physical structure, new furniture, upgraded shelving, and additional amenities, the Stanford L. Warren Branch will be a community hub for years to come.

Durham County Library’s Stanford L. Warren Branch to Reopen Following Extensive Renovations

Durham County Library is proud to announce that the historic Stanford L. Warren Branch Library located at 1201 Fayetteville Street will reopen on December 12, 2024, after undergoing over three years of renovation work. During the period of closure, structural repairs to the building and extensive upgrades to the library’s interior took place. Stanford L. Warren will also open with new furniture, shelving, and amenities.

Durham County Library to Celebrate Durham Historian Jean Bradley Anderson

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, Durham County Library will celebrate the 100th birthday of Jean Bradley Anderson, a local historian who has made immeasurable contributions to the understanding of Durham’s past. Her trailblazing Durham County: A History of Durham County, North Carolina first came to market in 1990 and was updated with a second edition in 2011. Durham County Library’s North Carolina Collection houses Anderson’s research papers. Her history of Durham County continues to inspire new generations of historians and remains a wellspring of information for those conducting research on Durham County.

Durham County Library Receives All-Clear Following Bomb Threat at Main Library

On the morning of Saturday, April 13, Durham County Library’s downtown Main Library location received a bomb threat related to one of its programming offerings. Upon receiving the threat at approximately 10:30 a.m., staff and patrons evacuated to a safe distance. Local law enforcement swept the building and confirmed that no threats were present, giving the building the all-clear.

From Monday, April 8 to Saturday, April 13, Durham County Library will hold the fourth annual Library Fest. This year’s theme is The Nature Edition. With the generous support of the Durham Library Foundation, the Forest at Duke, and community partners, Library Fest will include world-class author talks, programs, and events. Headliners like Leah Thomas, Dr. John Francis, and Matías Murano will compliment dozens of nature-themed events being held throughout Durham.
